Parkour doesn’t take strength, it makes strength.

I aspire!

Don’t get set into one form, adapt it and build your own, and let it grow, be like water.

The one vault I can pretty much do! (great tutorial video)

Had an awesome class last night!
I’ve started training at another venue (a university - when I can get there), which makes a nice contrast to the usual park and sandpit. The university is much more ‘urban’, lots of bricks, walls, concrete (read as: more chances to bruise… ;p).
In an ideal world I will go to one class at each venue a week (this is a plea to the universe to send me more time and less traffic to traverse to get there!).
So, back to last night’s class - I made nice progress on my precisions, overcoming a ridiculous fear of a height 30cm off the ground. Once I got it, it made no sense that I was scared in the first place.
And that, dear readers, is the power of parkour. It’s about facing the fear and overcoming it, pushing your limits and discovering your strengths - both physical and mental.
Highlight of the class: managing to cat grab onto a wall (it’s easy on a pole or railing, not so much on brick - see photo above). Still doing it from the ground up but hey, one step closer to my tic tac to cat goal… woohoo!

Looking at the positives!
For the past few days I’ve been compiling an update for this blog about frustrations and limitations in my head… and it just feels too negative to post at the moment.

So instead I want to focus on some positive stuff.

Going back to August 2010 when I started on this journey, my goal was to master some of the BASIC parkour techniques by the time I turned 40. And I now feel that I will definitely reach that goal.
I can already kinda do a lazy vault and my general techniques (precision jumps, rolls etc…) are improving all the time.

The move I really want to master is the tic tac to cat (video below) - when I can do that I will be able to say I have achieved what I set out to do.

I have discovered how much fun it is to exercise outdoors (even if getting more sun has aged my previously youthful skin), and love challenging myself every week to overcome the fear that comes with trying to do this stuff (even if it is difficult and frustrating at the time).

I have met the MOST awesome people - one of the best things about parkour is the community!

This journey has been amazing so far… and I’m looking forward to the road ahead.

Parkour shoulder - from last night’s class… rolling on brick and concrete aint for sissies!

Love this video! Especially the ‘elevator cat’… :)
